At the fist playing of God Save The Queen by the Sex pistols I found myself unsusceptible to the punk rock power it brings in full. I had heard of the song, but never listened to it through all the way before today. As I continued playing It around the third or fourth time my energy was able to sink with it. A few more plays and I was unable to stay sitting still. With It’s beat and harsh guitar driving I had to jump around my room and create a one man mosh pit. Since the lyrics are simple and catchy it makes it easy to follow along and scream out. It does an excellent job at creating a feeling of rebelling against rules and norms. It conveys distaste and mocks the old fashioned monarchy using the queen as it’s figure head. I also love the pronunciation and inflictions the singer puts on some words in his British accent, especially the way he says they make you a moron! The punk anthem feels like it’s created as an outlet for the frustration, angst, and misunderstanding that comes with rejecting previous generations traditions and values. Further creating a feeling of rebelling against rules and bringing unity in that identity. It’s the perfect song to dance to during midterm season to let off some steam.
